From Abel’s Heritage: Transcendental Objects in Algebraic Geometry and Their Algebrization

چکیده
” Niels Henrik Abel (august 5, 1802 april 6 , 1829) ... In 1822, he entered the University of Christiania [today’s Oslo] .. died at twenty-six of tubercolosis. His best known works are: the result that algebraic equations of order five or above cannot in general be solved algebraically; the result that *Abelian equations [I.e., with Abelian Galois group] can be solved algebraically; the theory of *binomial series and of *elliptic functions; and the introduction of *Abelian functions. His work in both algebra and analysis, written in a style conducive to easy comprehension, reached the highest level of attainment of his time.”

The Role of Partial Differential Equations in Differential Geometry
In the study of geometric objects that arise naturally, the main tools are either groups or equations. In the first case, powerful algebraic methods are available and enable one to solve many deep problems. While algebraic methods are still important in the second case, analytic methods play a dominant role, especially when the defining equations are transcendental. Indeed, even in the situatio...
متن کاملAbel’s Differential Equations
This paper is the text of a talk given by the second author at the Chern Conference. Intended for a general audience, it is based on joint work in progress with Mark Green. The purposes of the talk were (i) to discuss Abel’s differential equations (DE’s) for algebraic curves in both classical and modern form, (ii) to explain in a special case the extension of Abel’s DE’s to general algebraic va...
متن کاملPoincaré and Algebraic Geometry
A few of the contributions of Poincaré to algebraic geometry are described, with emphasis on his late work on normal functions. A very brief description of some recent works is also given. Although the subject of algebraic geometry was not one of Poincaré's major preoccupations, his work in the field showed characteristic insight and brilliance and certainly has had a lasting effect. I shall br...
متن کاملSome Transcendental Methods in the Study of Algebraic Cycles
O. I n t r o d u c t i o n The algebraic cycles which lie in a smooth, projective algebraic variety, together with the various equivalence relations (such as numerical or algebraic equivalence) which may be defined on such cycles, constitute a purely algebro-geometric concept. One may, however, attempt to study these by transcendental methods, and historically much of the structure of algebraic...

The study of metal works of Bam citadel (Arg-e-Bam) is underway to study the pathology of metalworks in Iran. The aim of this project is to study and investigate the corrosion mechanisms of metal objects. Various metallic works including iron, silver and copper alloys have been gained from the area of Arg-e-Bam. The research is focused on a number of bronze works of this historical site. The stud...
